ORBIT APP
Orbit is a personal concept app that aims to connect both students and professionals through a proximity system. Users are able to connect with an increasing network that rewards local connections. Through a fun theme that puts users literally among the stars, Orbit pushes its users through the often dry and stressful act of networking.

RESEARCH
A large portion of research came from competitor audits, A/B testing, and target audience interviews. It was found that there existed a dichotomy between students and professionals in which the former had trouble in establishing connections outside of school, while the latter was not aware of those entering the industry unless they applied for a job. There needed to be a way for both to be connected in a way that wasn’t stressful for the student, but also not time-consuming for the professional. The idea of proximity-based connections came out of this as a means of creating a strong local network that would allow each party to be more aware of the industry around them.

APPROACH
The resulting need for a fun and friendly theme led to creation of a stellar theme. Each user is represented as a star that grows based off of actual star classification levels. This growth is the result of a set amount of connections that are made, with each level growing one’s “orbit” and the physical radius in which they can see potential connections.

RESULTS
The resulting app features extensive use of characters and visuals to provide for a fun and easy feel. Connecting to other users is easy, as is messaging and sending requests. Users are not bound to a set location, but able to jump to any galaxy/city to allow for a strong local network anywhere. Orbit puts the user among the stars and affirms that they’re not just looking at the incomprehensible, but are part of it and can do the impossible.
